Clove Bud essential oil is derived from the tree, Syzgium aromaticum. It is a slender evergreen tree that grows up to 12 metres in height. At the start of the rainy season, long buds appear. They change colour over time and are beaten by hand from the trees and dried. These are the cloves that are sold commercially. This oil is made from those buds, it is slightly more aromatic than that made from the bud stems and more so than that made from the leaf. Clove leaf is the most popular of the three clove oils.
