The seed of Dolichos lablab is known in China as Bai Bian Dou and is highly  regarded in Chinese Traditional Medicine. It is also known as Lablab bean, Bonavist bean, Hyacinth bean, and Indian butter bean amongst many other colloquial names

The seeds are traditionally used in Chinese herbal remedies to strengthen the spleen, reduce heat and dampness, and promote appetite. As a food they are boiled like most pulses, rigorously for 10 minutes to detoxify them and then used as a nutritional addition but in China they are much better known for their medicinal benefits
