The Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a small evergreen tree that produces a small, bitter fruit very similar to Lemon. The fruits themselves are green in colour with a green fleshy interior.
Traditional Attributes for Lime Essential Oil:-
Used mainly as a citrus additive in men’s toiletries, the sweet citrus peel smell is antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and is a good warming stimulant and tonic.
In aromatherapy it is useful for greasy skin, varicose veins, arthritis, rheumatism, poor circulation, cellulite, breathing problems, colds, flu, fever or infection. It is good for a warming friction massage, or diluted and rubbed into the chest for colds, or as an astringent facial. It makes an excellent warming bath in winter, or a refreshing energising bath in summer. It can be applied as a poultice for fever or inhaled for any breathing problems or congestion.

Lime has been used historically to prevent sailors long at sea from developing scurvy. It is reputed that the term “limey” to describe the British the whole world over but especially in Australia is attributable to this fact.
CAUTIONS: Lime essential oil is phototoxic. Users should avoid direct sunlight after application.
